Thomas Isaac Criticizes Trump and Israel, Claims War Goals Remain Unmet

Senior CPI(M) leader Thomas Isaac has launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump and Israel regarding the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Isaac argued that despite engaging in war, Trump has failed to achieve any of his intended strategic goals. Furthermore, he asserted that Israel is the primary obstacle to peace efforts and has no real desire for a cessation of hostilities.

“The Strait of Hormuz has been opened, and a ceasefire has been reached in Lebanon. Negotiations between Iran and the United States were set to resume in Pakistan. All of this could have been accomplished ten days ago,” Isaac noted. He pointed out that these efforts were previously undermined by Israel, which launched a devastating bombing campaign in Lebanon immediately after a ceasefire had been declared. He suggested that the United States appears to finally be attempting to rein in Israel.

According to Isaac, Israel’s true objective is not peace but the elimination of Palestinians and indigenous people from the wider Israeli region. He claims that Israel intends to devastate and seize Southern Lebanon, similar to its actions in Gaza, and to displace Palestinians from the Jordanian coast. Isaac expressed skepticism regarding Trump’s influence, noting that while many speculate about the influence of the Epstein files on US-Israel relations, the underlying dynamics remain complex.

“Politically, Trump cannot afford to prolong this war. The adverse global and domestic consequences would lead to a significant setback in the upcoming US elections in November,” Isaac stated. He observed that Trump’s relentless social media activity reflects his desperation to find a way to withdraw while saving face.

Isaac further criticized the diplomatic “theatrics” surrounding the conflict, highlighting that Trump had called representatives of both sides to Washington, only for Lebanon to refuse to sit at the same table as Israel. Consequently, Trump was forced to hold separate discussions with each party. He also noted the irony of Israel negotiating a ceasefire with Hezbollah—a paramilitary group it aims to eliminate—while participating in theatrical diplomatic talks with the Lebanese government.

Concluding his remarks, Isaac pointed out that the United States is spending approximately 500 million dollars daily to bomb Iran. He questioned whether these vast resources could be better utilized to improve the lives of ordinary American citizens by funding schools, housing, or infrastructure development. Isaac warned that such questions pose significant political risks for the Trump administration.
