“No Weapons Used”: Speaker Shamseer Clarifies Stance on Veena George Incident

Shamseer defends his role in assisting the Minister and criticizes KSU’s protest methods
Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker A.N. Shamseer has issued a clarification regarding the KSU protest against Minister Veena George in Kannur. The Speaker stated that he never claimed the Minister was attacked with weapons by KSU activists.
Clarifying his actions during the conflict at the Kannur Railway Station, Shamseer said the Minister was injured and appeared extremely exhausted during the scuffle. He noted that as a member of the House, he took the initiative to ensure she reached the hospital, fulfilling his responsibility toward a colleague who was unable to even walk independently at the time.
The Speaker also criticized the nature of the protest, questioning the Congress party’s tactics. He asked whether KSU lacked female activists and suggested that the party should reconsider a protest style where male activists charge at a woman minister. He further added that going to jail is a possibility when conducting protests and criticized Congress for portraying such legal actions as a grave injustice.
