M.V. Govindan Dismisses Exit Polls; Expresses Firm Confidence in LDF Victory
CPI(M) State Secretary Cites Popularity of Pinarayi Vijayan and Lack of Anti-Incumbency as Keys to Retaining Power

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan has officially dismissed the recently released exit poll results, asserting that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) remains fully confident of retaining power in Kerala. Addressing the media today, April 30, 2026, Govindan stated that there is no cause for concern, as the underlying data from these very surveys reveals two crucial factors in favor of the ruling front: the continued popularity of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the absence of any significant anti-incumbency sentiment across the state.
Govindan argued that while some agencies predict a tight race or a slight edge for the UDF, the “popularity index” consistently ranks Pinarayi Vijayan as the most preferred choice for Chief Minister. He noted that these qualitative indicators are often more accurate than seat projections, which frequently carry a high margin of error. He further emphasized that the people of Kerala will vote for the continuity of development and welfare projects initiated over the last ten years, rather than the “misleading narratives” pushed by certain media houses.
The CPI(M) leader also took the opportunity to critique the opposition’s campaign, accusing the UDF and BJP of forming a secret “deal” to undermine the Left. He specifically claimed that the BJP would fail to open its account in Kerala, including in high-profile constituencies like Nemom. According to Govindan, the LDF’s internal assessments suggest they will comfortably cross the majority mark once the final votes are counted on May 4.
Dismissing reports of a UDF wave in districts like Malappuram and Ernakulam, Govindan reiterated that the party places its absolute trust in the verdict of the people rather than intelligence reports or media-driven exit polls. He concluded by stating that the LDF is poised to make history again by securing a consecutive term, driven by its track record of social welfare and communal harmony.
