Former DGP Tomin Thachankary Fined for Using Official Logo on Private Vehicle

Motor Vehicles Department imposes penalty on retired IPS officer for violating regulations regarding the use of official insignias on personal transport

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has imposed a fine on former Director General of Police (DGP) Tomin Thachankary for traveling in a private car that displayed an official logo. The action was taken after authorities identified the violation, resulting in a penalty of ₹250.

Reports indicate that Thachankary was using a board and logo on his private vehicle similar to the ones he utilized during his active service, including his tenure as the Managing Director of KSRTC. Under existing regulations, retired officials are strictly prohibited from using official symbols, insignias, or departmental boards on their personal vehicles.

This is not the first time the former top cop has faced scrutiny over this issue, as similar complaints regarding the unauthorized use of official markings on his vehicle had surfaced previously. The MVD reiterated that such practices are a breach of protocol and will attract disciplinary action to prevent the misuse of official authority post-retirement.
