High Court Defers Bobby Chemmanur’s Bail Plea to Tuesday

The Kerala High Court has postponed the hearing of Bobby Chemmanur’s bail plea to Tuesday. Chemmanur, who is currently lodged in Kakkanad District Jail, faces allegations of sexually harassing an actress. The court deferred the case to give the government time to file its response. As a result, Chemmanur will remain in jail until Tuesday. The court also reminded that caution is necessary while making public statements and questioned the urgency and gravity of the matter.
In his plea, Bobby Chemmanur claimed that he is innocent and accused the complainant of persistently harassing him on social media. The alleged incident occurred in August 2024, but the complaint was only recently filed. Bobby Chemmanur pointed out that the actress had no prior grievances and had maintained a friendly relationship with him. He also alleged that videos shared by the actress herself on social media were now being used against him.
According to Bobby Chemmanur, the complaint was shared on social media with the intent to target him publicly. He also criticized the manner of his arrest, claiming it violated Supreme Court guidelines, which state that arrests are not mandatory for cases with punishments of less than seven years. He alleged that he was arrested early in the morning without due consideration of these guidelines. Bobby Chemmanur added that he had been interrogated for 30 hours, yet the police did not submit a custody application in court. He argued that his remand was unnecessary, given his willingness to cooperate with the investigation and his status as a prominent businessman unlikely to abscond. His plea also cited health issues as a reason to grant bail.
Bobby Chemmanur was arrested on Wednesday based on a complaint filed by actress Honey Rose. On Thursday, the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate Court remanded him to 14 days in judicial custody. Magistrate A Abhirami dismissed Bobby Chemmanur’s claims of innocence, stating the allegations were not baseless. Following the court order, Bobby Chemmanur experienced health issues and was shifted to Ernakulam General Hospital for medical evaluation. Later in the evening, at 7:10 PM, he was transferred to Kakkanad District Jail.
