Heavy Rains: Schools Closed in Eleven Kerala Districts Tomorrow Amidst Intense Monsoon Warning

Thiruvananthapuram: Following persistent heavy rainfall across Kerala, educational institutions in eleven districts have declared a holiday for tomorrow, Monday, June 16. District Collectors in Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod have announced the closures.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning forecasting strong rainfall across Kerala for the next five days. The intensification of rain is attributed to a cyclonic circulation located over South Maharashtra and another over the Northwest Bay of Bengal. Additionally, strong westerly winds continuing over Kerala are also influencing the weather patterns. Winds with speeds of up to 40-60 kilometers per hour are expected to strengthen over Kerala until Tuesday.
Along with rain and strong winds, the possibility of rough seas along the Kerala coast remains high. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned that high waves, ranging from 3.0 to 4.1 meters, and sea erosion are likely along the Kerala coast until Monday night.
