Survivor to Doctor: Dr. Asna, Who Lost Leg in Childhood Bomb Attack, Gets Married

Dr. Asna, who tragically lost her leg at the age of six in a bomb attack in Kannur, has gotten married. The groom is Nikhil, an engineer from Alakode, working in Sharjah. Asna, from Tharasiparambath House in Cheruvancheri Poovathur, is a survivor of political violence in Kannur.
On September 27, 2000, during political clashes amidst a Panchayat election, a bomb exploded in her home’s courtyard while she was playing, severely injuring Asna. Her mother, Shantha, and brother also sustained injuries in the incident.
During her three months of agonizing recovery in the hospital, the love and care she received from doctors inspired Asna to dream of becoming one herself. Despite the pain, Asna pursued this dream with unwavering determination. She secured admission to MBBS at Kozhikode Government Medical College. At that time, unable to access her fourth-floor classroom, then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy sanctioned ₹38 lakh to install a lift in the college specifically for her. Finally, on February 6, 2020, Asna became a doctor, serving her own community.
Asna’s right leg was severely injured in the bomb attack and later had to be amputated below the knee during treatment. With a prosthetic leg, she faced her destiny with unwavering resolve, climbing the ladders of success one by one. During this journey, she also served as a doctor at the health center in her own Panchayat. Currently, Dr. Asna works at a clinic in Vadakara.
