DYFI Files Complaint Against Bharatamba Picture at Governor’s Event in Kerala High Court

Kochi: A controversy has erupted over the display of a picture of Bharatamba at an event attended by Governor Rajendra Arlekar at the Kerala High Court. The event, organized by Bharathiya Abhibhashaka Parishad in the High Court auditorium on National Law Day, had the Governor as the chief guest. The DYFI Lawyers’ Unit filed a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that the incident was a challenge to the Constitution and secularism. Following this, the Governor also responded to the issue.

The Governor stated that ostracizing Bharatamba signifies a degradation of values. “They ask, ‘Who is this woman?’ when they see a picture of Bharatamba. Such thoughts represent cultural decadence,” he said. He added that some people are boycotting events because of the display of Bharatamba’s picture. “If we don’t celebrate Bharat Mata, then what should we celebrate? Have people’s thoughts stooped so low? Such ideas are a cultural degradation,” the Governor further remarked.

He further stated that cultural diversity is a Western concept. While there might be many colors, like a rainbow, Indian culture is one. The concept of secularism is misleading, he asserted, emphasizing that “Dharma Samabhavana” (equality of religions) is the correct idea. The Governor concluded by stating that Indian culture and nationalism should be recognized as one and the same.
