Hijab Controversy: Family Awaits High Court Decision, Will Not Immediately Change Child’s School in Kochi

Kochi: The family involved in the hijab controversy at St. Rita’s School in Palluruthy has announced that they will not immediately change the child’s school. The family clarified that a decision regarding transferring the student will only be made after the Kerala High Court’s final stance is known. The petition is scheduled to be heard by the High Court on Friday.

The student’s family has been impleaded in the petition filed by the school authorities. Parents stated that they would not send the child to school until Friday, when the High Court verdict is expected. Earlier, the father, Anas, had indicated that his daughter was unwilling to continue at the school and would be transferred soon.

The school management had maintained that the student could continue her studies if a consent letter was provided stating she would attend school without a hijab. The management’s condition against wearing a hijab was initially agreed upon by the student’s father during an earlier conciliation meeting, but he later changed his position. Meanwhile, Education Minister V. Sivankutty had strongly criticized the school management over the incident.
