Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram Top List for Most Dangerous Roads in Kerala: Report

Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram, recognized as the commercial and administrative capitals of Kerala respectively, have emerged as the districts with the most dangerous roads in the state. According to the “Status Report on Road Accidents – 2025” by the Department of Economics and Statistics, these two districts recorded the highest number of road accidents in Kerala.

Kerala reports approximately 49,000 road accidents annually. Data from 2018 to 2023 consistently identifies Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram as the districts with the highest accident rates, collectively accounting for a quarter of all reported incidents. In 2023 alone, Ernakulam registered 7,128 accidents, while Thiruvananthapuram recorded 5,649. Thrissur followed closely behind with 5,003 accidents.

In contrast, Wayanad district reported the fewest accidents with 910 cases, making it the safest. Kasaragod also saw a relatively lower number of accidents, with 1,068 cases reported.
