M Swaraj is LDF Candidate for Nilambur By-election

Thiruvananthapuram: M. Swaraj, a CPI(M) State Secretariat member and former MLA, has been announced as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate for the Nilambur by-election. The announcement was made by Party State Secretary M.V. Govindan.

M. Swaraj was elected as an MLA from Thrippunithura in 2016 but was defeated in the last election. The decision on his candidature was finalized at today’s CPI(M) State Secretariat meeting, which convened to decide on the candidate selection.

M.V. Govindan stated that the Left Front views Nilambur as a significant political battle. “The Party Secretariat meeting decided that Comrade M. Swaraj should be the candidate in this political battle,” Govindan said. “The party wishes to put Swaraj, who has emerged as a capable parliamentarian and public servant, at the forefront of this political fight. We believe the Left Front can achieve a major breakthrough in the Nilambur constituency in this election.”

Govindan further remarked that the Nilambur constituency currently stands as an LDF-leaning constituency given the prevailing circumstances. He described M. Swaraj as a brilliant candidate. Govindan also commented on P.V. Anvar, stating that Anvar is in a deplorable state, having betrayed the Left Democratic Front like Judas. He quoted Anvar saying that UDF leaders are “slinging mud” at him even while he’s “begging” them. Govindan added that Anvar’s desperate face, waiting even after postponing his morning press conference while accusing others of conspiracy against him, is evident.
