Muslim League Leader P.M.A. Salam Criticizes CM Pinarayi Vijayan with Controversial ‘Neither Male Nor Female’ Remark

Muslim League State General Secretary P.M.A. Salam has sparked controversy with sharp criticism directed at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, labeling him as ‘neither male nor female.’ Salam asserted that the Chief Minister’s decision to sign the PM Shri scheme was a direct consequence of this perceived ambiguity. He further stated that it is an insult to the state to have a leader who lacks a definitive stance.

The controversial remarks were made during a Muslim League conference held at Vazhakkad Panchayat in Malappuram, where Salam elaborated on his criticisms of the Chief Minister’s actions regarding educational policy.

Salam argued that Kerala’s endorsement of an education system promoting Hindu principles and distorted views is regrettable. He drew comparisons with other state leaders, noting that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin demonstrated how a male leader could effectively oppose such policies. Similarly, West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a woman, had categorically refused to introduce communal elements into her state’s education, even when offered significant funds. According to Salam, Kerala’s Chief Minister, being ‘neither male nor female,’ inexplicably signed off on the scheme, which he believes is a source of humiliation for the state.

This is not the first time P.M.A. Salam has been at the center of a controversy due to his comments. Earlier, his statements asserting that women and men are not equal had also drawn widespread criticism. He had then maintained that the concept of equality between genders is not universally accepted and dismissed it as ‘ignoring the obvious.’ Salam suggested that some individuals propagate this view merely to gain public approval, questioning the feasibility of claiming absolute equality in all aspects of life. He previously cited examples such as separate Olympic competitions for women and designated seats on buses as evidence of inherent differences between genders during a press interaction in Malappuram.
