Husband of Viral ‘Kumbh Mela Girl’ Claims She is Pregnant; Requests Exemption from Police Questioning
Farman Khan, the husband of the woman who gained internet fame during the Kumbh Mela, has informed the police that his wife is pregnant and unable to appear for questioning. The police had issued a notice to the woman to appear before them in connection with a POCSO case registered against her husband.
The case follows a complaint filed by the woman’s parents in Madhya Pradesh, alleging that Farman Khan had deceived their minor daughter and married her. Following the complaint, the Mandleshwar DSP in Madhya Pradesh had summoned both Farman and the woman to appear for questioning.
In his response to the authorities, Farman stated that his wife’s pregnancy prevents her from undertaking travel. He communicated this update to a female sub-inspector in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh.
The couple had entered into wedlock in Kerala on March 11. While the parents allege that the girl, who is also an actress, was brought to Kerala under the pretext of a film shoot, the woman maintains that she married Farman out of love and sought refuge in the state due to their inter-religious relationship.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Ananadapur Ninar Temple near Poovar and was attended by several prominent political figures, including CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan, Minister V. Sivankutty, district secretary V. Joy, and A.A. Rahim, MP.
Controversies regarding the girl’s age emerged shortly after the wedding, leading her parents to claim she was a minor. A POCSO case was subsequently registered based on a report by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, as her birth certificate indicated she was under 18 years of age. Conversely, authorities stated that the couple had submitted an Aadhaar card during the wedding registration in Poovar, which suggested she had attained the legal age of majority.
The Kerala High Court has currently stayed the arrest of both the woman and her husband until May 20.
