DGP Appointment: State Government Follows Due Process, Says CPM’s K.K. Ragesh

CPI(M) Kannur District Secretary K.K. Ragesh today asserted that the state government does not have full authority to appoint the Director General of Police (DGP) on its own. He clarified that the appointment of the new DGP follows established procedures and that the government’s decision was made after considering various factors. Ragesh was speaking at a press conference held at the CPI(M) Kannur District Committee office.

Ragesh also stated that Rawada Chandrasekhar had no involvement in the Koothuparamba firing incident. He explained that Chandrasekhar, as an official, arrived in Koothuparamba without prior knowledge of the local situation, having only recently taken charge as ASP in Thalassery. Ragesh presented excerpts from the commission’s report that investigated the Koothuparamba firing to support his claim.

He emphasized that when it comes to the Koothuparamba firing, the findings of the investigation, rather than mere allegations, are what matter. Ragesh clarified that P. Jayarajan had not taken a different stance on the matter, attributing any such perception to media distortion of his words. He reiterated that the investigation commission’s report states that Rawada Chandrasekhar had no role in the conspiracy related to the Koothuparamba firing, and therefore, there is no need for controversy. Ragesh also pointed out that Rawada Chandrasekhar had previously worked in Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram during the V.S. Achuthanandan and E.K. Nayanar governments.
