Man Dies Following Elephant Attack at Puthiyangadi Nercha in Malappuram

A man injured in an elephant attack during the Puthiyangadi Nercha festival in Malappuram has succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Krishnankutty (58), a native of Ezhoor, Tirur. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kottakkal after sustaining severe injuries.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at the Puthiyangadi mosque during the Nercha festival. Krishnankutty was near the elephant when it went on a rampage. Shocking visuals of the elephant wrapping Krishnankutty with its trunk, tossing him, and flinging him away had emerged. The elephant, named Pakkanath Sreekuttan, became uncontrollable at the Jaramm ground where the event was taking place.

Krishnankutty had been on a ventilator at MIMS Hospital, Kottakkal, for the past three days. The elephant also attempted to pick up another person, but they miraculously escaped unhurt. The situation was brought under control after the mahouts managed to restrain the elephant, preventing further casualties. The chaos caused by the rampaging elephant left several people with minor injuries as they fled the scene.
