Kerala Weather Update: Low-Pressure System Brings Heavy Rain, Yellow Alert Issued for Next Five Days

Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Department has updated its rain warning for Kerala, indicating that very heavy rainfall is expected to continue across the state. Yellow alerts have been declared for various districts in the rain forecast spanning the next five days.
Today, November 19, Yellow Alerts are in effect for Kozhikode and Kannur districts, where isolated heavy rainfall is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of precipitation is received within a 24-hour period.
The low-pressure area previously observed over the Kanyakumari sea is currently situated above Lakshadweep and the Maldives. This system is anticipated to move in a west-northwest direction over the next 24 hours. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation persists over the Southwest Bay of Bengal.
A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by November 22. This system is then expected to move west-northwest and intensify into a depression over the central part of the South Bay of Bengal by November 24. In the subsequent 48 hours, it is likely to continue its west-northwest trajectory and strengthen further over the Southwest Bay of Bengal.
Kerala is forecast to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning for the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is specifically predicted for November 19, 21, 22, and 23.
