Heavy Rains Force School Closures in Six Kerala Districts; Red and Orange Alerts Issued

Thiruvananthapuram: Amid intensified monsoon rains across Kerala, educational institutions in six districts have declared holidays for Monday, June 16, 2025. The District Administrations in Thrissur, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kannur, Malappuram, and Ernakulam announced the closures following Red and Orange alerts issued by the Meteorological Department.

District-Wise Holiday Details:

Kasaragod & Wayanad (Red Alert): Holidays have been declared in Kasaragod and Wayanad districts due to the prevailing Red Alert.

• In Wayanad, all educational institutions including professional colleges, anganwadis, religious study centers, tuition centers, and special classes will remain closed on Monday. The holiday does not apply to residential schools and colleges.
• The District Collector of Kasaragod announced a holiday for all educational institutions, including colleges, professional colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, tuition centers, madrasas, anganwadis, and special classes, on Monday, June 16.

Thrissur (Orange Alert): Given the incessant heavy rain and the Orange Alert, all educational institutions in Thrissur district, including professional colleges, anganwadis, nurseries, and tuition centers, will have a holiday. However, pre-scheduled examinations and interviews will proceed without change. The District Education Deputy Director also confirmed that Plus One admission procedures will continue as planned.

Kannur (Red Alert): Due to the strong rainfall and the declaration of a Red Alert, the District Collector of Kannur announced that schools, anganwadis, religious study centers, and tuition centers in the district will remain closed tomorrow (Monday).

Malappuram (Red Alert): Following the Red Alert, Collector V.R. Vinod declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Malappuram district, including professional colleges, madrasas, tuition centers, and anganwadis. The holiday will not apply to examinations or residential educational institutions.

Ernakulam (Orange Alert): Considering the strong winds and heavy rainfall, and the Orange Alert in Ernakulam district, all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis, and tuition centers, will observe a holiday on Monday, June 16.
