Major Changes to Driving License Learner’s Test in Kerala from October

Thiruvananthapuram: Significant changes are set to be implemented in the driving license learner’s test across Kerala, effective from October 1st. These reforms, introduced by the Motor Vehicles Department, aim to enhance the testing process and improve road safety standards.
Under the revised examination pattern, applicants for a learner’s license will now face 30 questions, requiring a minimum of 18 correct answers to pass. This marks an increase from the previous format, which consisted of 20 questions with a passing threshold of 12 correct answers. Furthermore, candidates will now be allocated 30 seconds to answer each question, doubling the previous time limit of 15 seconds, providing more opportunity for careful consideration.
A key introduction is the ‘LEADS’ application developed by the Motor Vehicles Department. This app will now serve as the primary resource for all question and answer materials related to the learner’s test syllabus, replacing the physical books previously distributed through driving schools.
Successful completion of the mock test within the ‘LEADS’ app will lead to the issuance of a Road Safety Certificate by the Motor Vehicles Department. This certificate offers a notable advantage: individuals holding a Road Safety Certificate will be exempted from attending the mandatory pre-driving classes conducted by Motor Vehicles Department officials, allowing them to directly proceed to the practical road test.
In a move to ensure the competency of those involved in the testing process, it has been made mandatory for both driving instructors and officials conducting the license tests to pass the relevant examination. This measure underscores the department’s commitment to maintaining high standards across all facets of the driving license acquisition process.
