Four-and-a-half-year-old drowns in waterlogged area in Kollam

KOLLAM: A tragic incident unfolded in Chavara, Kollam, claiming the life of a four-and-a-half-year-old boy who drowned after falling into a waterlogged area near his home. The victim has been identified as Atlan Aneesh, the only child of Aneesh and Finla Dileep, residents of Pazhankaala, Neendakara Thazhathuruth. The unfortunate event took place on Tuesday evening, around 3:30 PM.

Atlan’s parents are currently employed in the United Kingdom, and the young boy had been residing at his maternal grandparents’ home in Neendakara. On the day of the incident, Atlan was returning from his playschool in Neendakara Parimanam, accompanied by his grandfather, Dileep, after disembarking from the school vehicle.

According to reports, as they approached the gate of the residence, Atlan, in a moment of playful exuberance, pushed his grandfather’s hand and ran ahead. After briefly placing the child’s school bag inside the house, Dileep immediately went to look for Atlan but was unable to locate him.

A frantic search was then initiated by family members and local residents. Their efforts led to the heartbreaking discovery of the child in a nearby waterlogged canal. Atlan was promptly rushed to the district hospital, but despite immediate medical attention, doctors were unable to revive him. His body has since been transferred to the district hospital mortuary for further procedures. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the community, highlighting the dangers of waterlogging, especially for young children.
