Kerala Braces for Heavy Rains as Northeast Monsoon Arrives; Orange Alert in Ernakulam

The Northeast Monsoon has officially commenced its presence over Kerala, bringing with it predictions of widespread heavy rainfall across various districts. The Central Meteorological Department has issued a five-day rain forecast, including Orange and Yellow alerts for several regions.
Today, an Orange alert has been declared for Ernakulam district, indicating a likelihood of very heavy rainfall. Concurrently, seven other districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Thrissur – are under a Yellow alert, signaling the possibility of isolated heavy showers.
Looking at the immediate forecast for the next three hours, isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, potentially reaching speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour, is anticipated in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha. Furthermore, isolated light rain is expected in Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
