Former Kunnamkulam MLA and CPM Leader Babu M Palissery Passes Away at 66

Thrissur: Babu M Palissery, a former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kunnamkulam and a prominent leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), has passed away at the age of 66. His demise occurred while he was undergoing treatment for Parkinson’s disease.

Palissery, a native of Kadavalloor Korattikkara, had a distinguished political career, serving as the MLA for Kunnamkulam in two terms, from 2006 to 2011. He was admitted to Kunnamkulam Unity Hospital two days prior to his passing after experiencing severe breathing difficulties and was on ventilator support.

Throughout his career, Babu M Palissery held various significant positions within the CPM and associated organizations. He served as a CPM District Secretariat member, Kunnamkulam Area Secretary, and was the Thrissur District President of the Library Council. Additionally, he was the DYFI District Secretary and State Vice President. At the local level, he served as a Kadavalloor Panchayat member and later as the Kadavalloor Panchayat Opposition Leader. He was also a State Committee member of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

His health deteriorated while he was still an active member of the District Secretariat. He battled Parkinson’s disease, which affected his nervous system, eventually leading to a minor coma stage before he continued to receive care at home.

He is survived by his wife, Indira, who works as a Manager at Adat Farmers Bank, and his children, Ashwathy and Akhil, an engineer. His son-in-law is Sreejith, residing in Oman. He is also survived by his siblings: Madhavanunni, a retired Executive Engineer; M Balaji, who is currently a CPM District Secretariat member; Thankamol; and Rajalekshmi.

Born in 1959, Babu M Palissery was the eldest son of Palissery Raman Nair, a former Income Tax Officer, and Amminiyamma, both from Korattikkara Mullath. His body will be brought to the CPM party office in Kunnamkulam at noon for public viewing, allowing party members and the public to pay their last respects. Later in the evening, the body will be moved to his residence in Korattikkara. The funeral rites are scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
