Kerala Police Advise Against More Cases on ‘Pottye Kettiye’ Parody Song

The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law and Order has directed that no further cases should be registered regarding the ‘Pottye Kettiye’ parody song, which allegedly contains references to the Sabarimala gold heist. This directive was issued to the Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police. It was also stated that there is no need to send letters to Meta and YouTube to remove the song.

The complaint against the song was filed by the Thiruvabharana Patha Samrakshana Samithi, alleging that the Ayyappa devotional song was distorted. The complaint stated that a beautiful devotional song was misused and distorted for political gain. Following the complaint, a case was registered against lyricist Kunhabdulla, Danish Malappuram, CMS Media, and Zubair Panthalloor, who were involved in creating the song. Subsequently, similar complaints were received from across the state. However, the police have decided not to take further action on these complaints. The assessment is that pursuing these cases without concrete evidence could lead to setbacks in court.

The police had initially decided to send a letter to Meta seeking information, suspecting a conspiracy behind the inclusion of the Chief Minister’s photo alongside the parody. However, it has now been decided that no further action is required on this matter either.
