British F-35B Fighter Jet Stranded in Thiruvananthapuram Repaired; Awaits Clearance for Departure

The technical faults of the British F-35B fighter jet, which made an emergency landing in Thiruvananthapuram last month, have been successfully rectified. Reports indicate that the aircraft is now awaiting approval from the Chief of the British Navy before it can depart, with its return expected around July 20.

A 24-member team, comprising technical personnel from the British Navy and the aircraft manufacturing company, had arrived in Thiruvananthapuram specifically to address the issues. The warplane had been grounded at the Air India hanger in Chackai due to identified malfunctions in its hydraulic system and auxiliary power unit (APU). The expert team from Britain successfully resolved these problems and ensured the engine’s optimal performance.

The F-35B fighter jet made its emergency landing in Thiruvananthapuram on June 14. It had taken off from a British naval aircraft carrier operating in the Indo-Pacific region when it encountered technical difficulties.

A C-17 Globemaster aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday (today) to transport the expert team and specialized equipment back to Britain.
