'Mararji Bhavan' Blends Traditional Architecture with Modern Facilities

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Committee Office in Thiruvananthapuram. Upon his arrival at the office premises, Amit Shah first hoisted the party flag, symbolizing the official opening of the new headquarters. Following this, he planted a sapling of ‘Kani Konna’ (Golden Shower tree) in front of the office, a gesture often associated with prosperity and auspicious beginnings in Kerala.

Subsequently, the Union Home Minister formally entered the building after cutting the ribbon. Inside, he lit a traditional lamp (Nilavilakku) before the bronze statues of the party’s founding leaders, Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, officially marking the inauguration of the office.

Amit Shah then unveiled a half-bust bronze statue of former state president K.G. Marar, located in the central courtyard of the office. He paid floral tributes to the statue in the presence of national and state leaders. Following the unveiling, the Union Home Minister toured the new office building.

Named ‘Mararji Bhavan’, the sprawling 60,000-square-foot office has been constructed on a 55-cent plot purchased over two and a half decades ago in Thycaud. The seven-story building is designed in the traditional ‘Nalukettu’ architectural style, characteristic of Kerala, blending heritage aesthetics with modern functionality.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a host of prominent leaders including Kerala Prabhari (in-charge) Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister George Kurian, BJP Kerala State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former state presidents K. Surendran, C.K.P. Padmanabhan, Kummanam Rajasekharan, P.K. Krishnadas, former Union Minister V. Muraleedharan, former MLA and senior leader O. Rajagopal, BJP National Vice President A.P. Abdullakutty, and State General Secretaries M.T. Ramesh and S. Suresh, among others.
