Elderly Man Dies After Alleged Assault by Home Nurse in Pathanamthitta

Pathanamthitta: An elderly man, who was allegedly brutally assaulted by a home nurse entrusted with his care, has died while undergoing treatment. Shashidharan Pillai (60), a resident of Santhosh Bhavanam, Thattaparapetti, Kodumon, passed away at a private hospital in Pandalam. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Shashidharan Pillai had been admitted to the private hospital in Pandalam two days prior, following treatment at another private hospital in Parumala.

Last month, home nurse Vishnu allegedly brutally assaulted Shashidharan Pillai, who was bedridden due to memory loss. Shashidharan Pillai, a retired ex-serviceman, had been ill for some time. Following the severe beating, the home nurse also reportedly dragged Shashidharan Pillai while he was unclothed. CCTV footage of the incident had emerged, exposing the cruelty.

Shashidharan Pillai’s wife is currently at her workplace in Thanjavur, and their only daughter is also away. It was due to this situation that Vishnu was hired as a home nurse to care for the ailing Shashidharan Pillai. Relatives had filed a police complaint after finding Shashidharan Pillai in a critical condition at home. The brutality came to light when the police examined the CCTV footage based on this complaint. Following the revelation, Kodumon police arrested the accused, Vishnu. Vishnu had reportedly come to work at Shashidharan Pillai’s house through an agency in Adoor.

Shashidharan Pillai is survived by his wife Anitha Kumari and daughter Arya Shashi.
