In Idukki’s Anachal, following an incident where tourists were trapped in a sky dining facility, the district administration has ordered its temporary closure. A stop memo was issued to Southern Skies Aerodynamics for operating without adequate safety measures. A police case has also been registered against the operators of the establishment.
The district administration and police have taken action against the Idukki Anachal-based establishment that offered the adventurous sky dining experience. Acting on the instructions of the District Collector, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, the Tahsildar’s inspection revealed that the establishment lacked proper documentation. Consequently, Southern Skies Aerodynamics was ordered to be temporarily shut down.
The action was initiated for conducting an adventure activity without adhering to adequate safety measures. A case has been registered by the Vellathooval police against the operators, Sojan and Praveen from Udumbannoor Pulikkamarayil. Yesterday afternoon, a group of Malayali tourists from Coimbatore, including children, along with an employee of the establishment, were trapped at a height in the sky dining cabin for hours.
The incident was caused by a malfunction in the sensors of the sky dining cabin’s hydraulic system. The Fire and Rescue team stated that despite the individuals being trapped for over two hours, the establishment’s staff did not inform them. The rescue team from Munnar arrived following instructions from the Sub-Collector. Even with tourists trapped, the establishment was unable to rectify the crane’s technical fault for two hours.
The staff of the establishment explained that trained personnel attempted to resolve the issue, but there was a delay in fixing the malfunction. The sky dining facility, designed to seat 16 people, had only four tourists present at the time. The swift intervention of the district administration was crucial in the rapid rescue of the trapped tourists.
