Attappady Assault Case: Accused Granted Conditional Bail

Palakkad: In the case where a young man was tied up, partially stripped, and assaulted in Attappady over allegations of vehicle damage, the accused have been granted conditional bail. Rejin Mathew and Vishnu, the accused in the case, were granted bail by the Mannarkkad SC/ST Court.
The court has directed that the accused must not contact or threaten Siju or the witnesses in any manner.
The incident occurred on May 24, when Rejin Mathew, a native of Sholayur, and Vishnudas from Alappuzha, brutally assaulted Siju Venu from Chittur Adivasi Unnathi after tying him up. The attack allegedly stemmed from an accusation that Siju had obstructed their vehicle. Siju complained that when he tried to stop the attack, the youths tied him up and assaulted him. Siju, who sustained serious injuries in the assault, was rescued by locals and admitted to the hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment at Kottathara Tribal Hospital.
Agalay Police registered a case after Siju’s family came forward demanding action against his assailants. Rejin Mathew and Vishnudas, who attacked Siju, were apprehended in Coimbatore during the course of the investigation. The accused had initially told the police that they did not assault Siju, and only tied him up after he allegedly broke their vehicle’s glass.
