Candidate Descends Into Well to Thank Friend After Election Victory in Malappuram

Manjeri: A video showing a newly elected candidate descending into a well to express gratitude to a friend who supported him during his election campaign has gone viral on social media. The unique gesture was performed by A.T. Usman, the Muslim League candidate who secured a victory by 163 votes from Muthanur Poochengal, Ward 4 of Malappuram’s Pulpata Panchayat.

Following the declaration of election results, Usman visited the ward to meet his voters and sought out his friend, Shihab, who had tirelessly campaigned for him, going door-to-door. Shihab and his assistant were found engaged in their usual work of well construction.

Usman approached the well and, using a rope, descended approximately eight ‘kol’ (an traditional unit of depth) into it. He embraced Shihab, who was working at the bottom, expressing heartfelt thanks for his unwavering friendship and crucial support during the election. After this emotional exchange, Usman climbed back out of the well using the rope.
