Bird Flu Confirmed in Alappuzha and Kottayam Districts; Emergency Measures Initiated

Bird flu has been confirmed in various parts of Alappuzha and Kottayam districts in Kerala. The confirmation came after sample tests were conducted at the High-Security Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Bhopal.

Following the confirmed reports, the Animal Husbandry Department has promptly issued directives for emergency preventive measures to contain the spread of the disease.

In Alappuzha district, the outbreak has been reported in one ward each across eight panchayats. The affected areas include Nedumudi, Cheruthana, Karuvatta, Karthikappally, Ambalappuzha South, Punnapra South, Thakazhi, and Purakkad. In Nedumudi, chickens were primarily affected, while in the other designated panchayats, the infection was found in ducks.

Meanwhile, in Kottayam district, bird flu has been confirmed in chickens and quails in the wards of Kuruppanthara, Manjoor, Kallupurakkal, and Veloor.

Upon receiving the test results, officials from the Animal Husbandry Department were immediately instructed to initiate further actions, including the culling of birds in the affected areas. Additionally, strict restrictions will be imposed on the sale and transportation of birds within a specified kilometer radius surrounding the infected zones to prevent further transmission.
