Tribute Play ‘M.T. Malayalathinte Randaksharam’ Premieres in Ernakulam on Vasudevan Nair’s Death Anniversary

The play ‘M.T. Malayalathinte Randaksharam’, directed by renowned makeup artist Pattanam Rasheed, is set to premiere in Ernakulam. This much-anticipated production, helmed by Rasheed, who is a recipient of numerous state and national awards, will have its inaugural staging on Sunday at 6:30 PM at the Chavara Cultural Centre in Ernakulam.
Presented by the Eloor Kazhcha Nataka Sangham, the play serves as a heartfelt tribute to Malayalam’s beloved writer, M.T. Vasudevan Nair, marking the first anniversary of his passing.
The narrative of the play intricately traces M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s journey through his memorable characters, rich storytelling, enduring friendships, and the distinctive regions that shaped his works. Beyond being a personal homage, ‘M.T. Malayalathinte Randaksharam’ also offers a contemporary re-evaluation of India’s current political and social landscape.
The script for the play has been penned by screenwriter Binulal Unni. The musical score is composed by Bijibal, set to the evocative lyrics of Rafeeq Ahammed. Artist Sujathan is responsible for crafting the stage design, while the makeup artistry is handled by Pattanam Sha, and costume design by Indrans Jayan.
Further contributing to the production are Sreekanth Cameo for light design, Satyajit for background music, and Sudheep as the vocalist. The cast features a stellar lineup of prominent personalities from the Malayalam cinema and theatre circuits, including Babu Annur, Rajesh Azeekodan, Aju Kizhumala, Gopan Mangattu, Saji Sopanam, Davis Payyappilly, Shaji Maloor, Priya Sreejith, KPAC Anitha, Meera Keshavar, Syriac Alanchery, Asif, Rahul, and Sujith Kalamandalam.
Sreejith Ramanan serves as the creative director for the production, with Ayilyan as the production co-ordinator. Manju Gopinath is managing the public relations for the play.
