Another Heart Transplant: Air Ambulance Transports Organ from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi

Thiruvananthapuram: The state is witnessing another significant heart transplant operation. An air ambulance is set to depart from Thiruvananthapuram, carrying the heart of a 25-year-old to Kochi. The organ belongs to Amal Babu, a 25-year-old native of Malayinkeezhu, who was recently declared brain dead. This vital organ is being transported for a 33-year-old recipient from Malappuram, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam.

The decision to transport the heart by air ambulance from Thiruvananthapuram ensures the fastest possible delivery. Amal Babu tragically met with an accident a few days ago. In a profound act of generosity, his family has agreed to donate his other organs as well, which will provide a new lease of life to six other individuals. These donated organs include his liver, pancreas, and kidneys. The surgical procedures for organ retrieval have already commenced at KIMS hospital. It is anticipated that the heart will be airlifted to Kochi by air ambulance around 10 AM, following the completion of the surgery.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made to transport the heart to Ernakulam with utmost speed. She highlighted that a helicopter from the Home Department, acting on directives from the Chief Minister, is being utilized for this critical mission. Additionally, the police are coordinating road transport to facilitate a swift transfer upon arrival. K-SOTTO (Kerala Network for Organ Sharing) is meticulously coordinating the entire operation. The Minister extended her heartfelt gratitude to Amal Babu’s relatives who, despite their immense grief, displayed remarkable compassion by agreeing to donate his organs, offering hope to many others.
