Thiruvananthapuram: The family of Bindu, who tragically died in the collapse of a disused building at Kottayam Medical College, has moved into their newly renovated home. Bindu’s children, Navami and Navaneeth, her husband Visrutha, and grandmother Seethalakshmi began residing in the house recently. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced this development via Facebook.

The house was renovated by the National Service Scheme (NSS) under the Higher Education Department, with the keys handed over on Friday. The renovation project incurred an expenditure of 12.50 lakh rupees.

Extensive renovation work was carried out, including the complete demolition of the existing kitchen area. A new concrete extension was added, comprising a room with an attached toilet, a kitchen, and a work area. Old doorframes, doors, and windows were replaced with new ones. A protective wall was constructed and strengthened at the front of the house, and the courtyard was paved with sheets. A new septic tank was also built, and new railings were installed to facilitate access to the house.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Facebook post further elaborated on the government’s support: “The family of Bindu, who died in the accident caused by the collapse of a disused building at Kottayam Medical College, has moved into their newly renovated home. The National Service Scheme under the Higher Education Department undertook the renovation of the house, spending 12.50 lakh rupees. Earlier, the government had sanctioned 10 lakh rupees as financial assistance to Bindu’s family. Medical treatment for her daughter has been ensured, and a decision has been made to provide employment to her son in the Devaswom Board’s engineering division. The government order regarding the job is expected in the coming days. May this home, with its basic issues resolved and facilities improved, bring solace to the family amidst their profound grief.”
