Police Inspector Suspended for Birthday Cake Celebration with Political Activists and Alleged Criminal Links

Kozhikode: K.P. Abhilash, the former Inspector of Koduvalli Police Station, has been suspended from service following a controversial birthday celebration at the police station with activists from the Youth League and Youth Congress. The incident, which occurred in June this year, had already led to Abhilash’s transfer to the Crime Branch amidst widespread controversy.
The suspension comes after the Additional Director General (Intelligence) submitted a comprehensive report detailing clear evidence, including Call Detail Record (CDR) information and financial transaction specifics, which revealed illicit connections between Abhilash and individuals involved in criminal activities.
The report explicitly stated that Inspector Abhilash maintained associations with gangsters and individuals accused in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases. Furthermore, it highlighted that significant amounts of money were credited to his bank account through suspicious deposits originating from various individuals. These findings prompted the ADGP (Intelligence) to recommend a more extensive investigation into the matter.
Upon reviewing the report, it was prima facie concluded that Police Inspector Abhilash had committed serious acts of misconduct, indiscipline, and abuse of power. His actions were deemed highly inappropriate and unbecoming of a police officer.
The initial incident that sparked the controversy involved activists, led by P.C. Fijaz, the Congress Koduvalli South Mandalam President and Youth Congress Mandalam President, arriving at the Koduvalli Police Station to celebrate K.P. Abhilash’s birthday. Fijaz subsequently posted a video of the celebration on social media with the caption ‘Happy Birthday Boss’, which quickly went viral and drew public criticism.
Following this, more visuals surfaced, showing Abhilash celebrating his birthday with Youth League activists inside his office at the police station. A Special Branch report had previously confirmed the inspector’s lapse in judgment regarding these celebrations, paving the way for the current disciplinary action.
