Unique Jackfruit Art Tribute for Mohanlal’s 65th Birthday

Thrissur: In a truly unique artistic endeavor, renowned artist Davinci Suresh has crafted a striking portrait of Malayalam cinema’s beloved superstar Mohanlal using various parts of jackfruit. The vibrant artwork, measuring eight feet wide and two feet high, was created at Varghese Tharakkan’s Ayur Jack Farm in Veloor, Thrissur, which boasts an impressive collection of sixty-five varieties of jackfruit trees – fittingly, as Mohanlal celebrates his 65th birthday.

The portrait, Davinci Suresh’s 97th media artwork, was meticulously assembled by arranging jackfruit bulbs of different types and colors, jackfruit seeds, jackfruit “pola” (the fibrous inner part), and even parts of the jackfruit stem to form Mohanlal’s face. The background was adorned with jackfruit leaves in shades of green, yellow, and orange, adding to the natural aesthetic.

To create the base, a two-foot-high platform was constructed, covered with cloth, and a sketch of Mohanlal’s face was drawn on it before arranging the jackfruit pieces. Davinci Suresh was assisted by workers from Ayur Jack Farm, which is notable as Kerala’s first jackfruit farm to win a UN award, along with cameraman Simbad and friends Riyas Madavana and Syed Shafi. The entire process took five hours and utilized approximately twenty jackfruits.

Davinci Suresh shared that the rare red jackfruit inspired this particular piece. He explained that after searching in various locations across Kerala, he was able to complete the artwork with the support of Varghese Tharakkan at Ayur Jack Farm. Vadanappally MLA Xavier Chittilappilly also visited the farm to witness the remarkable creation.
