Kochi: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will continue as the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Mohanlal informed the ad-hoc committee of his willingness to remain in the position. However, a new General Secretary will be elected to replace Siddique, who recently resigned. The AMMA general body meeting is scheduled to be held on June 22 in Kochi.
The actors’ organization faced a crisis after Siddique, who was the General Secretary, resigned following sexual assault allegations. This resignation, coupled with controversies that erupted after the Hema Committee report was released, led to the collective resignation of all AMMA office bearers. Although the committee headed by Mohanlal resigned, it has continued to function as an ad-hoc committee. Amidst this, the organization is now preparing for its general body meeting on June 22 to elect a new committee.
President’s Stance and General Secretary Election
Mohanlal has conveyed his readiness to continue as President to the ad-hoc committee. However, his stance is that he will withdraw if there is a contest for the presidency. Meanwhile, a new individual will need to be found for the General Secretary position to replace the resigned Siddique. Other actors are eagerly awaiting to see if there will be a contest for the General Secretary post at the general body meeting on June 22. If there is no contest, the current ad-hoc committee will transform into an executive committee and appoint the new General Secretary.
