Woman Dies as Tree Branch Pierces Moving Car After Lorry Collision in Thrissur

Thrissur: A tragic accident on the state highway near Kadavallur Ambalam Stop yesterday evening, at approximately 6:45 PM, resulted in the death of a young woman after a tree branch pierced a moving car. The deceased has been identified as Athira (27), daughter of the late Ashokana and Sreeja, residents of Manikypalam Chettikunnath, Polpakkara, Edappal.

According to reports, a container lorry, traveling from Kozhikode, collided with a roadside tree, causing a large branch to break off. At that precise moment, a car heading from Kunnamkulam towards Edappal, in the opposite direction, was struck by the falling branch.

The branch violently pierced through the car’s front windshield and struck Athira, who was seated in the front passenger seat, on her head. The impact was severe enough for the branch to then break through the rear windshield of the vehicle.

Athira and the car’s driver, Saifu, a native of Tripralur, Thavanur, who sustained injuries, were immediately rushed to Perumpilavu Ansar Hospital by local residents and passersby. Unfortunately, Athira could not be saved. Witnesses reported that the container lorry responsible for the incident did not stop and drove away from the scene. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Athira was employed at KVR Automobiles in Edappal. She is survived by her husband, Vishnu, and siblings, Abhilash and Anu.
