Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Criticizes Former Governor Arif Mohammed Khan

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has come down heavily on former Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, accusing him of acting with political motives. Speaking at the CPM Alappuzha District Conference, the Chief Minister remarked that the former Governor’s actions were not in line with the interests of the state. Vijayan alleged that Arif Mohammed Khan had attempted to disrupt governance.
“The governance of universities should be handled by individuals with academic expertise. We cannot accept the new amendments proposed by the UGC, which would allow anyone to take up leadership positions in universities. According to these changes, even factory owners can occupy such roles. While anyone can own a factory, only individuals with academic credentials should lead universities,” he said.
The Chief Minister further stated that the stance taken by the former Governor was widely criticized and not accepted by anyone. “Arif Mohammed Khan’s actions were politically motivated and incompatible with the state’s interests. His interventions were evidently part of the Central Government’s approach,” Vijayan added.
