Case Filed Against BJP Leader Printu Mahadev Over Death Threat Against Rahul Gandhi on News18 Debate

Peramangalam police have registered a case against Printu Mahadev, former state president of ABVP and state convener of the BJP Teachers’ Cell, following a death threat remark he made during a News18 channel discussion. Mahadev allegedly stated that a bullet would hit the chest of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. The case has been registered under sections 192, 352, and 351 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of incitement to riot.

The controversial statement was made by BJP spokesperson Printu Mahadev against Rahul Gandhi on September 26, during a News18 channel debate discussing the Ladakh agitation. The action was initiated based on a complaint filed by KPCC Secretary C.C. Sreekumar with the Peramangalam police. The complaint asserts that Mahadev’s remarks constitute an attempt to create anarchy and incite riots in the locality. Printu Mahadev is also a school teacher.

Following the controversial remarks, the Congress party organized statewide protests demanding the arrest of Printu Mahadev. On Monday, Congress activists marched to Mahadev’s house in Peramangalam. The police intercepted the march near his residence, and when activists attempted to breach the barricades, water cannons were deployed to disperse them.

The Youth Congress has sent an email to Education Minister V. Sivankutty, urging departmental action against Printu Mahadev. The Youth Congress Thrissur District Committee President, Hareesh Mohan, stated in his letter that such pronouncements by a teacher are illegal and foster hatred and violence in society. He emphasized that such behavior from an individual who ought to be a role model for students undermines the dignity of the teaching profession and the educational sector.

Meanwhile, the opposition is set to raise the issue in the Legislative Assembly today. KPCC President MLA Sunny Joseph has submitted a notice under Rule 50, demanding an adjournment of the assembly to discuss the matter.
