DYFI Files Complaint Against Sandeep Warrier and Rahul Easwar for Alleged Defamation of Woman

Thiruvananthapuram: A significant controversy has erupted following an alleged attempt to defame a woman who filed a complaint against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mankootathil, accusing him of forcing her to undergo an abortion. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has lodged a formal complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) against Congress leader Sandeep Warrier and political commentator Rahul Easwar.
The DYFI’s complaint asserts that revealing the survivor’s identity was a deliberate act aimed at humiliating her, tantamount to exposing her to cyber criminals. The complaint explicitly states that both individuals engaged in an organized effort to defame the complainant. Sandeep Warrier and Rahul Easwar reportedly shared posts on social media that disclosed the survivor’s identity, and this sensitive information has since been widely circulated across numerous online groups supporting Rahul Mankootathil. The incident has triggered widespread condemnation and strong protests against both Warrier and Easwar.
In a related development, MLA Rahul Mankootathil has filed an anticipatory bail application subsequent to the woman lodging her complaint with the Chief Minister. Rahul Mankootathil has reportedly been absconding since the woman’s allegations became public. Police sources suggest that Mankootathil is unlikely to leave Kerala, as doing so might hinder his anticipatory bail proceedings. His official vehicle has been located at his flat in Palakkad, leading police to believe he is currently in a undisclosed location within Palakkad. Authorities have instructed police stations in Palakkad, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram to intensify surveillance efforts to locate the MLA.
Meanwhile, the complainant’s medical examination has been concluded as part of the ongoing investigation. This examination was conducted after her confidential statement was officially recorded. The police are slated to begin recording statements from the woman’s friends and her treating physician starting today. Additionally, the woman’s mobile phone has been sent for forensic analysis. There are also indications that Joby Joseph, who is identified as the second accused in the case and a close associate of Rahul Mankootathil, may also seek anticipatory bail.
