Kerala Local Body Elections 2025: Polling in Two Phases on December 9 and 11, Results on December 13

Thiruvananthapuram: The dates for the 2025 Kerala Local Body Elections have been officially announced, with polling scheduled to take place in two phases across the state on December 9 and 11. The counting of votes will occur on December 13.
State Chief Election Officer A. Shajahan confirmed at a press conference that elections would be held for 1199 local self-government institutions, excluding the Mattannur Municipality. These include 941 Grama Panchayats, 152 Block Panchayats, 14 District Panchayats, and 6 Corporations. A total of 23,576 wards will go to polls, with an electorate of 2,84,30,761 voters, including 2841 overseas voters. The Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect across the state, including Mattannur.
The first phase of polling on December 9 will cover the districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam, encompassing Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam. The second phase, on December 11, will see voting in districts from Thrissur to Kasaragod, specifically Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
The election notification will be issued on November 14, 2025 (Friday). The last day for filing nominations is November 21, 2025 (Friday), followed by scrutiny of nominations on November 22, 2025 (Saturday). Candidates will have until November 24, 2025 (Monday) to withdraw their nominations.
Polling will be conducted for 12 hours, from 7 AM to 6 PM. A total of 33,746 polling stations have been set up across the state for the elections. Voters in Grama Panchayats will have the opportunity to cast three votes each, for the District, Block, and Grama Panchayats.
Regarding symbol allocation, parties have been categorized into four lists: national parties, state parties in Kerala, state parties from other states with legislative assembly membership, and registered parties.
Currently, among the 941 Grama Panchayats, the LDF holds a majority with 557 seats, followed by the UDF with 363 seats, BJP with 14, Twenty20 with 5, and RMP with 2.
The district-wise breakdown of local bodies participating in the election is as follows:
**Municipalities (Total 87, excluding Mattannur):** Ernakulam (13), Malappuram (12), Kannur (9, with 8 going to election), Palakkad (7), Thrissur (7), Kozhikode (7), Alappuzha (6), Kottayam (6), Thiruvananthapuram (4), Kollam (4), Pathanamthitta (4), Kasaragod (3), Wayanad (3), Idukki (2).
**District Panchayats (Total 14, 331 seats):** Malappuram (32), Palakkad (30), Thrissur (29), Kozhikode (27), Ernakulam (27), Thiruvananthapuram (26), Kollam (26), Kannur (24), Alappuzha (23), Kottayam (22), Kasaragod (17), Pathanamthitta (16), Idukki (16), Wayanad (16).
**Grama Panchayats (Total 941, 15962 wards):** Malappuram (94), Palakkad (88), Thrissur (86), Ernakulam (82), Thiruvananthapuram (73), Alappuzha (72), Kollam (71), Kannur (71), Kottayam (71), Kozhikode (70), Pathanamthitta (53), Idukki (52), Kasaragod (38), Wayanad (23).
