Palakkad Twin Murder Was Pre-Planned, Says District Police Chief

Palakkad District Police Chief Ajith Kumar has confirmed that the Nenmmara twin murder was premeditated. The accused had procured the weapon well in advance, indicating careful planning. The police apprehended the accused, Chenthamara, from a paddy field near his house around 10:30 PM last night. According to the SP, the accused was forced out of hiding due to a lack of food.
Chenthamara’s long-standing enmity towards Sudhakaran and his family was the motive behind the murders. He was deeply superstitious and believed that Sudhakaran’s family was responsible for his wife and daughter abandoning him. His grudge extended towards the entire family, which led him to murder Sudhakaran’s wife, Sajitha, in 2019. After being released on bail, he later killed Sudhakaran and his mother, Lakshmi.
The accused claimed he did not consult a sorcerer, but the police remain skeptical. SP Ajith Kumar described Chenthamara as a highly strategic individual with a mindset akin to a tiger—ruthless and aggressive towards his enemies. Notably, he displayed no remorse for his actions and appeared content while in police custody.
Following the murders, Chenthamara initially returned home before escaping into the nearby forest. He was well-acquainted with the terrain and observed the police search efforts while remaining hidden. The accused, who studied up to the tenth grade, was finally caught when he emerged from hiding in search of food.
Though he initially claimed to have consumed poison, police believe this was an attempt to mislead them. Medical examinations found no evidence of poisoning. The accused is currently under interrogation, and he will be presented before the court today. After being remanded to judicial custody, he may later be taken into police custody for further evidence collection. A departmental inquiry is also underway regarding his bail violations, and additional action may follow based on the report’s findings.
