Popular singer Amritha Suresh has revealed that she lost ₹45,000 in a WhatsApp scam. The incident was disclosed by the singer in a video shared on her YouTube channel.
According to Amritha, she received a message from a relative’s WhatsApp number a few days ago, stating an urgent need for ₹45,000. The message claimed that the relative’s UPI was experiencing issues and requested the money to be sent to an alternative account. Believing the message to be genuine, Amritha promptly transferred the funds to the provided account. Immediately after the transfer, a “Thank you” reply was received from the same number.
However, suspicion arose when another message quickly followed, requesting an additional ₹30,000. It was only when Amritha directly called her relative that she realized their WhatsApp had been hacked.
Amritha stated that she has informed the police about the incident and also alerted all contacts known to her relative about the hacking. The singer admitted that she had previously not paid much attention to the cyber fraud warnings from the Central Home Ministry, which are often heard during phone calls. She emphasized that it was only after becoming a victim of the scam that she truly understood the importance of these warnings.
