Vadakara DySP A Umesh Suspended Over Sexual Assault of Woman in Custody

Vadakara DySP A Umesh has been suspended in connection with the incident where a woman taken into custody in Kozhikode was sexually assaulted. The suspension order from the Home Department explicitly states that Umesh committed a serious crime and flagrantly misused his official position. This development follows Umesh’s recent announcement that he was taking medical leave due to an anomaly detected in his ECG.
The findings of the ongoing investigation report confirm that Umesh indeed committed a grave criminal offense. The details of this disturbing incident first surfaced following the release of a suicide note written by Cherpulassery CI Binu Thomas, who tragically ended his life on November 15.
In his note, Binu Thomas alleged that in 2014, when Umesh served as the Circle Inspector (CI) of Vadakkancherry, he threatened and sexually assaulted a woman. The woman had been arrested for alleged immoral activities in Cherpulassery town.
According to the allegations in the letter, the woman was initially brought to the police station on the day of her arrest but was subsequently released. Later that same night, the superior officer (Umesh) reportedly went to the woman’s house and coerced Binu Thomas into accompanying him under threat. Binu Thomas’s note further detailed how he was subjected to continuous mental harassment regarding this incident thereafter.
