Kochi: Kerala has reported another COVID-19 death, with a 24-year-old woman succumbing to the virus while undergoing treatment. This comes shortly after a 59-year-old man also passed away due to COVID-19.

The state is currently witnessing a significant surge in cases, with 1,400 active COVID-19 cases reported in Kerala. Statistics indicate that Kerala now accounts for the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Of the 3,758 confirmed cases reported nationwide so far, a striking 37 percent are from Kerala.

In the last 24 hours, 64 new infections were confirmed across India. Out of these, 227 cases were from Kerala in the same period. The Union Health Ministry has confirmed that seven people have died from COVID-19 across the country this year.

Maharashtra and Delhi follow Kerala in the number of reported cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has affirmed that existing vaccines remain effective. The Health Ministry has also stated that all individuals who have died from COVID-19 in the country so far were elderly and/or had other underlying health conditions. Despite the rise in cases, health experts advise that there is no need to panic.

In response to the sudden increase in COVID-19 cases, the government has taken steps to strengthen surveillance and ensure adherence to health protocols. COVID-19 testing has also been increased across states.
