Doctor Suspended After Wrong Eye Treated at Government Hospital

Thiruvananthapuram: A doctor has been suspended following an incident at Thiruvananthapuram government eye hospital where a 59-year-old woman received treatment on the wrong eye. The doctor administered an injection to the woman’s right eye instead of her left eye, which was the one requiring treatment. Assistant Professor Dr. S.S. Sujeesh has been suspended pending an inquiry.

The 59-year-old woman, a resident of Bimapally, sought treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Eye Hospital last week due to blurred vision. During her examination, doctors diagnosed her with a condition causing swelling in her eye and prescribed an injection for her left eye.

However, the doctor proceeded to inject her right eye instead of the intended left one. Upon realizing that the wrong eye had been treated, the woman’s son filed a complaint against the doctor. This led to the doctor’s suspension.

The woman’s son informed the media that doctors at the hospital stated there were no significant issues with her eye after the injection. She is continuing her treatment at the same hospital, though her son mentioned they have not yet decided whether to seek further treatment elsewhere.
