Youth Congress State Office Bearers to Assume Charge Amidst Unique Circumstances

Thiruvananthapuram: The swearing-in ceremony for the new state office bearers of the Youth Congress is set to take place tomorrow, marking a departure from traditional proceedings. The oath-taking event is scheduled for Monday at 11 AM at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office. O.J. Janeesh will assume the role of President, while Binu Chulliyil will take charge as the Working President.

Traditionally, the incoming president receives the minutes book from their predecessor before officially taking office. However, former president Rahul Mankootathil has not been invited to this ceremony. This decision stems from his suspension from the Congress party following serious sexual allegations.

In light of these unusual circumstances, National President Udaybhanu Chib is confirmed to attend the ceremony. Other prominent leaders, including KPCC President Sunny Joseph and the working presidents, will also be present. Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan, despite prior engagements in Kollam, is expected to make an appearance. National Secretaries Abin Varkey and K.M. Abhijith are also slated to participate in the event.

The non-consideration of Abin Varkey for the presidential position, despite his securing 1.7 lakh votes in the Youth Congress elections, was attributed to “certain reasons.” This decision had previously drawn protests from the Orthodox Church. Abin Varkey himself had stated that the party leadership ought to provide a clear explanation for why he was overlooked for the top post.
