Couple Killed in Kilimanoor Accident; Seized Vehicle Torched, Protests Erupt Against Police

Thiruvananthapuram: Relatives and local residents have raised serious allegations against the police following a fatal accident on MC Road at Kilimanoor Pappala that resulted in the death of a couple. The allegations of an attempt to destroy evidence grew stronger after the Thar vehicle involved in the accident, which was in police custody, was mysteriously set on fire inside the police station compound at night.

The tragic incident occurred on January 4 when Ranjith (41), a painter, and his wife Ambika (36) were critically injured after their bike was struck by a speeding jeep. Ambika succumbed to her injuries on January 7 while undergoing treatment. Ranjith also tragically passed away yesterday evening, triggering widespread public outrage in the community. Their untimely deaths have left their two young children, aged six and one and a half, orphaned.

The community’s anger intensified following the incident yesterday night, where the Thar jeep, which had been seized after the accident and parked near the Kilimanoor police station, was found ablaze. Locals firmly believe this act was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the ongoing investigation and destroy crucial evidence.

Further adding to the suspicions, locals reported recovering two identification documents from the jeep at the scene of the accident, one of which belonged to a police officer. It was also reported that two occupants of the jeep fled immediately after the collision. These details have led residents to accuse the police of intentionally trying to shield the culprits. Compounding the issue, Vishnu, the owner of the vehicle, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident, was initially apprehended by locals and handed over to the police. However, he was later released on bail from the police station, a decision that further fueled public resentment.

Upon receiving the news of Ranjith’s death, a large number of locals gathered on MC Road with his body, effectively blocking traffic for several hours. The intense protest finally subsided only after high-ranking officials intervened and provided assurances that the vehicle owner, Vishnu, would be arrested without delay.

The agitated community is now demanding a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the entire incident, emphasizing the need to ensure justice for the two young children who have been left without their parents.
