Youth Congress Leader Returns to Congress, Claims ‘Memory Loss’ After Brief BJP Stint

Pathanamthitta: In a swift political U-turn, Youth Congress State Secretary Akhil Omanakuttan, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just a week ago, has rejoined the Congress party. Omanakuttan informed the media that he does not clearly recall the events that transpired during his brief association with the BJP and asserted that he intends to remain a dedicated Congress worker for the rest of his life.

The political drama unfolded on November 19, when Akhil Omanakuttan, a native of Kunnathanam, was formally welcomed into the BJP by the party’s district president, V.A. Sooraj, in Pandalam. Sooraj had then stated that the Youth Congress leader was joining the BJP to contribute to the central government’s development initiatives. Visuals had also emerged showing Omanakuttan announcing his resignation from his position as Youth Congress State Secretary at a BJP meeting in Kunnathanam.

However, Omanakuttan now claims that some individuals merely placed a BJP shawl around his neck and took photographs, which he initially perceived as a joke. He alleged that these visuals were then circulated as part of a “deceptive tactic” to portray him as a BJP member. Omanakuttan firmly stated that he had never formally resigned from his political organization, the Congress. This incident has sparked considerable discussion in Kerala’s political circles regarding party defections and loyalty.
