Kerala Braces for Isolated Heavy Rain; IMD Issues 5-Day Forecast and Fishermen Warning

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a revised rain alert for Kerala, releasing a 5-day rain probability forecast. In anticipation of the rainfall, a Yellow Alert has been declared for three districts today.

The Yellow Alert for October 5, 2025, is in effect for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts. On October 8, 2025, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts are expected to be under a Yellow Alert. An additional Yellow Alert for October 8, 2025, specifically mentions Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. An isolated heavy rainfall scenario is predicted, which signifies precipitation levels between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

Furthermore, the IMD has indicated the likelihood of light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph, in isolated areas across Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts over the next three hours. Isolated light rain is also anticipated in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.

**Fishermen Warning**

Fishermen have been strongly advised by the Central Meteorological Department not to venture into the Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts today and tomorrow (October 5 and 6, 2025) due to anticipated adverse weather conditions. However, fishing activities along the Karnataka coast are deemed safe.

On October 5 and 6, 2025, strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph, with occasional gusts up to 60 kmph, and rough sea conditions are expected along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts.

**Special Marine Warning**

From October 5 to October 7, 2025, extremely strong winds, with speeds between 45 to 80 kmph and at times reaching 90 kmph, are highly probable over the central-western and northwestern Arabian Sea, leading to adverse marine weather.

On October 5, 2025, strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph, occasionally gusting to 60 kmph, are forecast along the coasts of Somalia and Oman, adjacent central-western and northwestern sea areas, North Gujarat, West Bengal, the North Odisha coast, and the Kanyakumari region. Critically, in the northeastern and central-western Arabian Sea and its adjoining regions, extremely strong winds ranging from 90 to 110 kmph, with gusts potentially hitting 120 kmph, are predicted.

For October 6, 2025, strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph, possibly reaching 60 kmph, are expected along the coasts of Somalia and Oman, adjacent central-western sea areas, and the Kanyakumari region. On October 7, 2025, similar strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely over the central-western and northwestern Arabian Sea.

On October 8, 2025, strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph, with potential gusts up to 60 kmph, and adverse weather conditions are anticipated along the Oman coast, northwestern and central-western Arabian Sea, and adjacent areas. Fishermen are strictly advised to avoid these regions on the specified dates due to the perilous conditions.
