Kerala Local Politician and Mother Found Dead in Suspected Suicide, Note Alleges False Cases

Varkala Panchayat Member's Death Linked to Accusations of Fraud and Caste-Based Charges

A Varkala Grama Panchayat member, Arun (42), and his mother, Vatsala (71), were found dead, apparently by suicide, at their home in Nediyavila, Vakkam. Their bodies were discovered hanging in a shed at the rear of their house. Arun was the elected member for Ward 8 of the Vakkam Grama Panchayat.

Before his death, Arun reportedly sent a suicide note to his friends via WhatsApp. In the note, he alleged that he was being targeted with false cases, which made his life unbearable. The note explicitly named four individuals whom he held responsible for his drastic step: Vinod, Santhosh, Ajayan, and Bini Sathyan, all residents of the locality.

According to the suicide note, Arun claimed that a fabricated caste-based case and a theft case had been filed against him, making it impossible for him to continue living. Police had registered a caste-based case against Arun last year. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, taking the suicide note into serious consideration.
